My Language Learning Journey

Learning foreign languages has always been an important part of my life, especially English. Over the  years, I’ve realized that the most effective way I learn a language is through immersion and consistent,  everyday exposure. Watching movies and series, playing video games, chatting with international  friends, and using English on my phone and computer have made the language feel natural and  almost automatic to me. I don’t always study in the traditional sense, but instead, I surround myself  with English as much as possible. This has helped my reading and writing skills improve steadily. This term, I’ve found that writing blog posts and doing reflective assignments have helped me  understand how I use English and where I can still improve. I’ve also paid more attention to  vocabulary especially expressions by noting down new phrases I come across in shows or games.  One of the most useful tricks I’ve used is talking to myself in English when ...

Blog post 3 chapter review of ”UI is Communication” by Everett N McKay

Why This Book? As someone studying Information Processing, I’m constantly looking for ways to improve my  understanding of software design and usability. When I came across UI is Communication by Everett  N. McKay, I was intrigued by its core premise that user interfaces should be designed as a form of  communication. Since my team project involves designing an engaging and user-friendly Greenifie app/game, I wanted to see if this book could offer insights that would make our interface clearer and  more effective. Summary of What I Read I focused on the first couple of chapters, where McKay lays the foundation for his argument. Good UI  design is not just about aesthetics but about effectively communicating with users. He emphasizes  that every element of a UI-buttons, icons, menus and error messages should be intuitive, guiding  users to their goals with minimal confusion. The book draws parallels between UI design and human  conversation, sugges...

Best piece of advice The best piece of advice I ever received was from my friend, who taught me how to do a bench  press correctly. Before that, I had been lifting weights without paying much attention to my  form. I assumed that bench pressing was simply about lowering the bar to my chest and  pushing it back up. However, as I started lifting heavier weights, I began experiencing  shoulder discomfort and inconsistent progress. That’s when my friend stepped in and gave  me some crucial advice that completely changed my approach to weightlifting.  He watched me perform a few reps and immediately pointed out some mistakes. First, I was  flaring my elbows out too much, which put unnecessary strain on my shoulders. Second, I  wasn’t maintaining a stable position on the bench, which made my lifts feel unbalanced.  Lastly, I was lowering the bar too quickly, rather than in a controlled manner. My friend  explained that proper technique w...

Intro This blog is written by an information processing student. I have a Bachelor of Science in  Biochemistry, and university life is already familiar to me. I switched to information  processing after losing interest in biochemistry and seeing limited job opportunities in the  field. Friends who were studying or had graduated in information processing recommended it  to me. I've always been passionate about computers, especially video gaming, so it felt like a  natural choice. After completing the first half of a semester, I feel like I'm in the right field but  time will tell for sure. Blogging I've never blogged before, nor have I really read personal blogs. However, I do enjoy reading  blog posts about new technology and product reviews for example, this one about the best  gaming graphics cards in 2025 https://bittiblogi.fi/paras-naytonohjain-pelaamiseen-vuonna- 2025/. I'm not sure if that really counts as a blog, though it doesn't fee...
